President Barack (HUSSEIN) Obama announced a plan Tuesday to expand efforts to help move thousands more Central American migrants to the United States — and this short-sighted blunder could put millions of America at risk.
The influx of illegal immigrants into our country immediately rings two warning bells for concerned Americans: crime and job loss. But they also threaten to bring a silent, invisible killer across America’s borders – the deadly Zika virus.
Monday – just one day prior to Obama’s announcement — a report was released warning that as many as 2 million Latin American women could be infected with Zika over the next two years, NBC reports.
Currently in the United States, disease control experts are already struggling to prevent a Zika virus outbreak.
Rather than help fight against the disease, Obama’s plan — without proper disease screening implemented — will welcome an epidemic with open arms.
“Zika and other mosquito-borne viruses have been known to exhibit explosive outbreaks, infecting as much as 75 percent of a population in a single year,” researchers at the University of Notre Dame and Britain’s University of Southampton warned in the journal Nature Microbiology on Monday.
Opponents of the administration say this is both a danger to citizens’ health and a complete overstep of authority for the Obama administration.
“Once again, the Obama administration has decided to blow wide open any small discretion it has in order to reward individuals who have no lawful presence in the United States with the ability to bring their family members here,” Representative Robert W. Goodlatte, Republican of Virginia and the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said in a statement.
“Rather than take the steps necessary to end the ongoing crisis at the border, the Obama administration perpetuates it by abusing a legal tool meant to be used sparingly to bring people to the United States and instead applying it to the masses in Central America.”
The program for refugee children so far has drawn 9,500 applicants, according to The New York Times.
Obama’s expansion of that program, which is set to go into effect in the next few months, will cause that number to quickly multiply.
And that’s just newly legal immigrants.
Since the start of the budget year in October, more than 51,100 people traveling as families and more than 43,000 unaccompanied children have been caught illegally crossing the Mexican border. The number of such illegal immigrants has been steadily rising the entire year.
Nearly 15 percent of the illegal-immigrant population is comprised of individuals from Central and South America, according to the National Review.
The United States is entirely unprepared to handle this rush of immigrants, and the administration’s weak immigration laws are a welcome sign to thousands of potentially sick illegals.
Obama’s short-sighted immigration policy isn’t compassion. It’s a Pandora’s Box of disease and death that threatens an entire generation of American babies.
Obama has announced he’s going to open this Pandora’s Box.
And it could cost us dearly.
