Goodbye to Illinois

Former State Senator and Republican Cook County Board President candidate Roger Keats and his wife Tina are leaving Illinois to live in Texas. They bid farewell to their Illinois friends with the following letter.

Dear friends,As we leave Illinois for good, I wanted to say goodbye and wish all of you well. I am a lifelong son of the heartland and proud of “The Land of Lincoln” state. After 60 years, I leave Illinois with a heavy heart. But enough is enough.
The leaders of Illinois refuse to see we can’t continue going in the direction we are and expect people who have options to stay here.I remember when Illinois had 25 congressmen. In 2012 we will have 18.
Compared to the rest of the country we have lost 1/4th of our population.
Don’t blame the weather, because most of us love the 4 beautiful seasons of Illinois.

Illinois just sold still more bonds, and our credit rating is so bad we pay higher interest rates than junk bonds. Junk Bonds!

Illinois is ranked:
• 50th for fiscal policy
• 47th in job creation
• 1st in unfunded pension liabilities
• 2nd largest budget deficit
• 1st in failing schools
• 1st in bonded indebtedness
• Highest sales tax in the nation
• Most judges indicted (Operations Greylord and Gambat)

Five of our last 9 elected governors have been indicted. That is more than the other 49 states added together! Then add 32 Chicago Aldermen and (according to the Chicago Tribune) over 1,000 state and municipal employees indicted.

The corruption tax is a real cost of doing business. We are the butt of jokes for stand-up comics. We live in the most corrupt big city, in the most corrupt big county, in the most corrupt state in America. I am sick and tired of subsidizing crooks. A day rarely passes without an article about the corruption and incompetence. Chicago even got caught rigging the tests to hire policemen and firemen!

Our Crook County corporate tax system is intentionally corrupt. The Democrat State Chairman, who is also the Speaker of the Illinois House (Speaker Mike Madigan), and the most senior alderman in Chicago, each make well over a million dollars a year putting the fix in for their clients tax assessments.

Cook County’s property tax system is a disaster: The assessed value of our Chicago home was 50% higher than the sale price. Our home value is down 40%, our property taxes are up 20%, and our local schools have still another referendum on the ballot to increase taxes more than 20% next year.

The Illinois system is unfair and incompetent. In the Hill Country of Texas (near Austin and San Antonio) we bought a gracious home on almost 2 acres with a swimming pool. It is new, will cost us around 40% of what our home in Wilmette just sold for, and the property taxes are a third of what they are here.

We are moving to Texas where there is no income tax, while Illinois just went up 67%. Texas sales tax is half of ours, which is the highest in the nation. Southern states are supportive of job producers, taxpayers and folks who offer opportunities to their residents. Illinois shakes them down for every penny that can be extorted from them.

I could go on, but enough is enough. I feel as if we are standing on the deck of the Titanic and I can see the icebergs right in front of us.

I will miss our friends a great deal. I have called Illinois home for essentially my entire life. But it is time to go where there is honest, competent, and cost effective government. We have chosen to vote with our feet and our wallets.

Our best wishes to all of you.

Cordially,

Roger and Tina Keats

Last night Lou Dobbs compared two governors, Bob McDonald, a Republican who believes in free market enterprise from Virginia, the other a liberal, Martin O’Malley, from Maryland who believes in tax the people to death.

The differences are stark and tell the true story.  Virginia is doing very well as McDonald cut taxes, has new businesses and more citizens are coming to live in Virginia.  Also the State has a budget surplus.

In contrast Martin O’Malley, a democrat from Maryland raised taxes 19 times, has lost over 100, 000 citizens who fled the state and the state is in the red for their budget.

So when the Liar in Chief says the “free market” has never worked this is a good example how he lies and how liberal’s policies do NOT work. And that is just these two states.

And from this letter Donna sent me, Illinois is in the same kind of trouble. They are suffering with businesses leaving and high taxes.  Their governor is Pat Quinn, another democrat who is on the wrong track.

Need I say more?

A hat tip to Donna for sending this to me.  Thanks Donna.

  1. Donna.

Again, thanks for sharing this info!

I believe what is happening in Illinois is a very good example of what will happen to the entire country if Ovomit manages to stay in. Just like with Illinois, Ovomit and his communist cohorts want to shake down the people of the United States for every penny that can be extorted from them.

We must remove Ovomit and these Communists from our government. It is a matter of survival of our country and our freedom!

  2. The free market doesn’t “work” because it holds people accountable for their incompetence and corruption. Expect the national government will show up in Texas with guns to collect money to give to the incompetent/corrupt in Illinois.

    • drrik,

LOL! No doubt the state of Illinois will show up in Texas and other states who have a surplus and take their money which is really our money.

  3. More great info Donna that makes a wonderful article!

We see this also happening in Louisiana. They voted out that lousy ass dumbo lib governor and voted in Jindal. The way he has turned their economy around in such a short time is amazing. It’s not a miracle, because Jingle believes in low taxes and the free market and he believes in those things because history has proven they work time after time. Got off the back of tax payers and get out of the way of business and then just sit back and watch them do what they do best…create jobs, boost the economy, boost revenue for the state and improve their personal life style.

I think IL is simply a lost cause. Those dingy politicians will never change…even if it comes down to only one resident left paying all the taxes for the entire state…

  4. Dave,

Good comment demonstrating once again a Republican governor vs a democrat governor.
The difference is so completely stark. Maybe one of these days these dumbocrat governors will get the idea that what they are doing is ruining their state. But I would not hold my breath on it.

  5. Illinois does not have to be a lost cause. It’s up to the citizenry (legal) to take things in hand and vote out everyone currently holding office. Oh silly me, I am dreaming again.

As for Virginia, what’s astounding is that the Northern Virginia region will, in all likelihood, go democrat in the Presidential race at least. And sad to say that region is very densely populated. If we could just export Northern Virginia to Maryland, things would be great here!!

    • Mrs. Al,

I read that the northern part of Virginia has very little unemployment due to all the new jobs formed by Obama’s Agencies so of course they will vote democrat.

You are right. It is up to the citizens in each state to elect a better governor. The folks get what they vote for. Then there are those of us who try to get out a demon rat governor and fail because of the other citizens votes to keep same governor in place.

Yeah, Mrs. Al, I think you are dreaming as do I that people will become aware of what is happening in their states and make changes. Kasich made changes in Ohio and now he has the state on a better course. Due to demorat governors the taxes remained high and more taxes were placed on the citizens. Along comes Kasich who wants to build Ohio back u and bring in businesses and the unions go ape mad over it and swear to kick him out, sort of what happened in Wisconsin.

Before Kasich took office Ohio was losing 65 citizens a day.

    • Susie,

That is right. We need to remove the democrat governors because they use the old tired worn out way of thinking they are rebuilding their state by raising taxes on everything, including businesses and what happens is people flee those states and so do businesses.
Then these democrat governors lose tons of revenue since they chased businesses out who provided needed revenue to the state government. Then, the democrat governors raise more taxes on the people. Pretty soon so many people are fed up they move to a state that is more hospitable and less taxes. It’s a never ending circle just like Obama is doing. As long as he stays as president, we will continue to see the same loop across the country.

        But, but, but, Pepp,

Don;t cha know, those folks that leave the state are just plain unpatriotic Americans unwilling to pay their “fair share!.” Same thing with those terrible business’s that send jobs overseas.

Oh yeah, i forgot about how unpatriotic we are when we don’t want to pay taxes without representation. It sure seems that is all we get. Time for another tea party protest.

  7. Regarding Gov. Quinn, I guess what can we expect from a corrupt Chicago-style politician? Our State Senator (Dave Koehler) is nothing but a liar and a thief – he sponsored the bill for civil marriage in IL (his daughter is homosexual ) ..honestly, I think IL has the most corrupt, sick bastard politicians in any other state combined. We have a really intelligent business man, Pat Sullivan, who is running against Koehler for State Senator – they are currently running neck-to-neck. Hubby and I are helping Mr. Sullivan in his campaign. He plans (if elected) to just do one term – he is not a career politician, just wants to try to help get IL back on track.

    • Donna,

Thanks for adding your up close and personal knowledge about the state of IL and Chitcago. That town, Chitcago has been the most corrupt city since before I was born, at least per my parents and what went on during their lives. It just keeps trucking on with the corruption. Will it ever be any different? I can’t blame those people fleeing that state.

I hope your State Senator gets elected.
