That is if you see Maureen Dowd’s column in the NY Times:
Published: April 28, 2012
For openers she says:
“IT is an astonishing thing that historians will look back and puzzle over, that in the 21st century, American women were such hunted creatures.
Even as Republicans try to wrestle women into chastity belts, the Vatican is trying to muzzle American nuns.
Who thinks it’s cool to bully nuns? While continuing to heal and educate, the community of sisters is aging and dying out because few younger women are willing to make such sacrifices for a church determined to bring women to heel.
Yet the nuns must be yanked into line by the crepuscular, medieval men who run the Catholic Church. “

(BTW: I’m not a Catholic)
That’s the entire diatribe I’ll use just to make the point: war is definitely on. It may have come a little late this year, post Easter, but I suppose better fashionably late than never. And it’s never too late to take on Catholics or the Church in Rome, it’s always open season.
We don’t have to recap their probing reconnaissance missions earlier with their “GOP’s war on women” campaign about ‘contraceptives, the Catholic Church, and video tape’ of Ms Fluke testifying before Congress – i.e. let free contraceptives for women rain down like manna from the sky. (Obama sure has a strange way of courting the Catholic vote)
Now all artillery is aimed at the Church in Rome and any evangelicals who get in their way. The Left is also cranking up their “war on poverty” campaign as well. If they misfire at the Nuns and the Vatican, they can just revert to their socialist pious “Republican’s are against poor people” mantra. So they’ll trot out their minions and clergy allies with selected quotes – as if the left are objective theologians.
Well, they usurped or took de facto control of all areas of culture, so why not go for broke with Christianity and monasteries – just to keep faithful well heeled and in line. At least that’s the plan. You never know, “the One” might need a few Catholics to put him over the polls if women, unions, and the Latinos fall short.
I’m done with the rant. But there you are: another strategy of Leftists’ ongoing war on Christianity, Christians and culture as we know it – or knew it. The reaction they would like is “all quiet on the western front”, which it certainly is not under their carpet-bombing raids. This should merge with their Alynsky class warfare tactics. If he can’t have “the Catholic” vote in block, then at least he will cause as much friction and angst in their ranks that their voice is diluted, in more than one way.
