Wicked Commentary

To find its own pay; Congress requires by Article I, Section 6, of the Constitution.

Prior to 1969, Congress did so by enacting Stand Alone legislation. Stand Alone Legislation forces lawmakers to vote on each legislative item eliminating; piggy-backing bad, unpopular, special interest or ideological legislation to good legislation. Thus; Congress has to pass a Stand Alone Bill on THEIR wage increases.

Oink, Oink. I don't care how much money you tax payers have to pay me!

Now that’s got some great forward thought of good checks and balances wrote all over it; wouldn’t you say? Well, let’s see how they did with that idea:

Salaries of Members of Congress:

September 22, 1789

Payable Salary (Current Dollars)

$6 per Diem – Daily pay rate for their attendance, while Congress was in session. Except for a period from December 1815 to March 1817, when they received $1,500 a year.

Members began receiving an annual salary in 1855, when they were paid $3,000 per year.

Flash forward to our modern-day Congress:

WHERE IS EVERYBODY??????????

January 1, 2008

Payable Salary (Current Dollars)

$169,300 – Yearly Salary NOT based on their attendance, while Congress was in session.

January 1, 2011

Payable Salary (Current Dollars)

$174,000 – Yearly Salary for Rank-and File member NOT based on their attendance, while congress is in session. Leaders of the House and Senate are paid a higher salary than rank-and-file members.

Senate Leadership
Majority Party Leader – $193,400
Minority Party Leader – $193,400

House Leadership
Speaker of the House – $223,500
Majority Leader – $193,400
Minority Leader – $193,400

A cost-of-living-adjustment (COLA) increase takes effect annually; unless Congress votes to not accept it.

So, how’s that great forward thinking worked out for Congress? Want to take a guess how many times Congress and vote nah on a COLA increase?

Would some of you like to take a peek at some of the hardest working Member’s in Congress? I thought you might, so here are a few that fall into the group of the 10 most wealthiest Congressmen ending 2010:

Alert! DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER, IF YOU HAVE A LOADED GUN NEAR YOU!! Especially you Pepp!

#10 – U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein

Bloody hell I hope this is not public information!

U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat from California, reported a net worth of between $46 million and $108.1 million in 2010, according to financial disclosures. (Pretty big gap; she can’t even keep up with her own money!)

#7 – U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan

Hey, why single me out? We’re all pigs.

U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, a Republican from Florida, reported a net worth of as much as $366.2 million in 2010, according to financial disclosures. (Lord knows this man needs that big salary each year!)

#3 – U.S. Sen. John Kerry

So I'm an ugly traitor. Therrrrrrrrrrrrrreza won't give me all the money I need.

U.S. Sen. John Kerry, a Democrat from Massachusetts, reported a net worth of between $182.8 million and $294.9 million in 2010, according to financial disclosures. (Kerry no longer thanks God for tomatoes since everyone stopped buying Heinz Ketsup)

#1 – U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa

You didn't think I was really going to do anything to Holder did you? I fooled you! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha. I get my face on TV constantly over Fast and Furious, but I don't plan to indict anyone over it.

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa, a Republican from California, reported a net worth of between $156.1 million and $451.1 million in 2010, according to financial disclosures. (A pattern CA Congressmen really is clueless!)

The recession that began in December 2007 took a bite out of American workers’ paychecks over the next couple of years – perhaps a small price for those fortunate enough to hold  their jobs. While workers in industry suffered financial setbacks, Congress pay grew at taxpayer expense during the depth of the recession, an analysis of federal economic data showed. Members of the House and Senate saw their salaries go up by more than 5 percent, or $8,800, from the time the recession began through 2009, according to the federal government. The Congress pay figures do not include the generous perks and health benefits provided to lawmakers.

The median personal wealth for members of Congress grew to $911,510 in 2009, up from $785,515 in 2008, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Nearly half of the members of Congress are millionaires.

(This man did more than just fly kite’s in the rain to try to get himself electrocuted!) During the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin considered proposing that elected government officials not be paid for their service. Other Founding Fathers, however, decided otherwise.

What the hell have these people done to our country? I can't get any rest in my grave these days.

Where were Mr. Jefferson and Mr. Adams at during this conversation? My guess would be outside duking it out as usual! There was  nothing lost there….

We love taking shots at Obamastalin every chance we get; and we should! But, he’s just one single moron in Dipsh*t City tearing our Republic all to piece’s for one salary. What if we add up the entire idiot’s in Congress that takes more vacations than Obamastalin and often actually goes to sleep; while they’re in session and put all their salaries in one lump pile? And can anyone tell us what their great congressmen have done for them lately? Did a light bulb just click on over the top of anyone’s head illuminating, “Short end of the stick?” So, how do you like just how hard your tax dollars work?

      Thanks for your comment! We should all be sick and mad at the same time. At least to me; looks like it doesn’t matter which party a congressman/woman belong to; their getting rich off of us while do nothing to help us! Mr. #1 Issa is a perfect example!

      PS. I think the only people that pay attention to “We the People” anymore are the ones that see my avatar…

    When I scrolled down and saw the “TRAITOR” John Kerry, the anger inside me grew instantly! And your right. I had the biggest impulse to shoot him just looking at the S.O.B! Him and Jane Fonda should be hanged together!

      I agree with everything you wrote except Johnthecon being ignorant, but he is an ahole! Here’s my reasoning for not thinking he’s ignorant: His wife controls a family fortune worth an estimated $1 billion. We all know what she looks like and how she act’s, so he sure didn’t marry her for looks nor brains. Sounds to me like he’s a pretty smart gigolo ahole! If he’d got elected; he’d been the richest president in history even surpassing JFK and their family fortune…but, as the “Awk wrote and after one of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies, “Hang em High”…

    Good article, Dave. If these people have such a vested interest via of their salaries and perks….well, never mind that line of logic. Think about all the votes they cast. Think about how really creative they get about these bills. They even think they have their own personal time machine that can pass bills after the fact and declare things retroactive so they don’t have to meet a deadline. And there is the other game of deadlines. But all this while their raises and salary is on some automatic system. Nothing else is automatic like that, even defense spending. If this were any other group the congress critters would be calling them “freeloaders”. Whenever you try to apply some logic to their deeds, you get very disappointed real fast. Maybe their intention is to drive normal people insane to question them. (plug in the Godfather theme)

With elections coming up in 2012; there is a hell of a lot more trash in Dipsh*t City than just Obamastalin that needs to get thrown away and we need to revisit the system in place for congress pay and benefits. When you see their wages & benies and how much there never at work they are making one hell of a hourly wage. When they’re working; they’re getting a paid vacation. When their on vacation from their paid vacation; they’re getting paid for their vacation. When they’re on vacation, from their paid vacation; we pay for their vacation. They never even have to spend a dime of the money they decide on how much they should be paid on anything. They bank role their entire salary every year. Then they retire and let loose the pensions. Only in America!

      I would be more than happy to let Obamastalin take very single dime he has left over from his campaign funds just as long as he leaves. I could live with that for the rest of my life; no prob!

    “So, how do you like just how hard your tax dollars work?”

    Well, now that is the question of all questions. (even libs would disagree)
    Just look at your local school tax as an example. Hey it’s a tax and it all comes out of the taxpayers pocket in some way. Almost every year taxes go up. (maybe a holding pattern between increases) What choice does Joe Schmo have but pay it? They do aprove it though.(ha ha) Everyone cannot be up to date on every possible schooll budget maneauver. They are busy doing other things, like trying to make the money to pay the growing taxes. Even if they are involved, really how much affect can they have? So we can express our disapproval and exercise all our 1st amendment, but in reality the cake is baked. We are hardly given a choice on the icing. State taxes and so on are pretty much the same, not to mention all those other taxes, like sales and property taxes, etc. Then there’s the federal. All I am saying is realistically, and increasingly, it seems to matter less what we think all the time. So it would be hard to find a soul who is happy with the taxes and then the way they are spent only gets more disagreeable.

I have not personally heard Perry’s answer to these question’s. If his answer is yes to both; then I’m on board. If his answer is no; then it’s just more political lip flapping. Hell, they already get plenty of time off by them being able to also set their own working schedule. Being in Congress is the job in our country. There is a quotation that:
    “A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations from the beginning of history has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    · From bondage to spiritual faith;
    · From spiritual faith to great courage;
    · From courage to liberty;
    · From liberty to abundance;
    · From abundance to selfishness;
    · From selfishness to complacency;
    · From complacency to apathy;
    · From apathy to dependence;
    · From dependence back into bondage.

          Yer right. That’s probably the one thing that bothers me most. is we don’t know what the “Stupids” will do. We know that the elections will be bombarded with corruption and Voter Fraud. And we know where it’s coming from and we expect it. But we don’t know how the “Stupids” will vote. I guess it depends on what information, intimidation or propaganda they believe is best for themselves.

            Unfortunately, stupid is as stupid does and we saw their stupid asses in 08′ and we all know you can’t fix stupid. So the stupid will vote for Obamastalin again. I think the the place to watch is the independent voting block. In 2012; we’ll find out how many of them really are stupid or figured they F’d up bad back in 08’ and now know the commie must go. And there’s always my pet peeve; lazy ass, dumbass Repub’s that might not vote again in 2012; because they think their principle is more important than our constitution. Those moron’s need to get on some med’s quick to help fix their psychosis! Or; we can just shoot those idiot’s and put them our of OUR misery!

        Are you sure you last name ain’t Smith? Anyway, we need some of that sentiment in the “District of Caviar” and Champagne. I’d trust your eyesight any day over anyone connected to our federal leviathan there.

          LOL! Yeah I know what ya mean. Sometimes this whole thing that is going on with our government, is like watching a movie! A combination Sci-Fi, Horror movie at that. Then you come back to reality and say “My God! This is really happening! And like a movie, you’re helpless to change the script!

          Thanks for the compliment but it is really just common sense, but there must be hundreds up there that have none at all.

    Mrs. Pepper’awk, Gos’awk, Dave etal. A little off the subject but ‘ere goes. I was an avid gardener in the ’80s and one year I raised a bumper crop of tomatoes. Even after supplying the neighbors all Summer, I ‘ad an abundant number left over.

    I still ‘ad beau coup jars of tomato juice and stewed tomatoes left over from the previous Summer. What to do!

    My wife ‘as an old Settlement Cook Book that ‘ad a recipe for ‘omemade tomato wine. I thought why not give it a try.

    I followed the directions and ended with a brew that tasted a little like Bloody Mary mix.

    A good friend of mine, who just ‘appened to be a wine taster, came over and I asked ‘im to sample it. ‘e thought it tasted pretty good but wondered what was the alcohol content. I said I didn’t ‘ave any idea.

    ‘e told me I could send a sample to the nearest USDA lab and they could analyze it and send me a report.

    I received a letter about two weeks later. The author said “we ‘ave tested the sample of your brew and regret to inform you that your ‘orse ‘as diabetes.

    ‘ooRah! 🙂

    PS: Proper British don’t you know.

    Hey, just wondering at their rate of return on the investment…of being in Congress, how much will they be worth in another 5 or 10 years?

    • bull,

      I’d love to be able to tell you, but as you can see up top Diane Stinkystein and Darrell Isacrook have such wide gaps in how much they think, possible, maybe, could be, somewhere around, in the of ball park of;…hell, I can’t figure it myself bull! Of course; I don’t access to all the illegal money they get, so that ain’t helping me math!

        I guess that counting thingy would be a problem. Still it must be like grass, it just grows. Yea, these gaps are not thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands… but millions, tens of millions. Cruise ship gaps.

        Come on, Dave, they’re regular folks like us though.(supposedly) So, honestly, when’s the last time you misplaced 10 mil? Fes up, we all done it. The only thing I can think of with more trouble accurately counting money is gubmint — and these people work in that. Oh, that’s right they are the “overseers” of the purse. I think I’m getting it. Maybe they’ll suddenly find it all when they leave, wouldn’t that be luck?

    Here was an article right on GOPUSA (requires email)June 30, 2011
    http://www.gopusa.com/commentary/2011/06/30/sherline-are-legislators-overpaid/

    This quote and info was in there:
    “Perhaps Mark Twain said it best when he observed, “It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress.”

    “Historical data on Congressional pay rates since 1900 illustrates the growth of their compensation over the last 100 years:
    1910 $ 7,500 per annum
    1920 $ 7,500 per annum
    1930 $ 10,000 per annum
    1940 $ 10,000 per annum
    1950 $ 12,500 per annum
    1960 $ 22,500 per annum
    1970 $ 42,500 per annum
    1980 $ 60,662 per annum
    1990 $ 98,400 per annum
    2000 $ 141,300 per annum
    2005 $ 158,100 per annum
    2006 $ 165,200 per annum
    2008 $ 169,300 per annum
    2009 $ 174,000 per annum
    2010 $ 174,000 per annum

    “To add insult to injury, Congress has previously explored the idea of giving themselves an additional raise of $165 a day, tax-free (for every day they are in session). That’s right, tax-free. That amounts to about $25,000 a year after taxes, which equates to annual pre-tax income of around $40,000.”

    In 1970 it was 42,500. (Sure caused some comments)
